Nintendo will no longer made their consoles or games available to Brazil after Brazil’s rise of taxes.
Nintendo could avoid taxes by going with a local manufacturing operation, but the company decided not to pursue that idea.
Although Nintendo of America will no longer be sending products to Brazil, the company shared that they will still continue to make Nintendo goods available in the region.
“Brazil is an important market for Nintendo and home to many passionate fans, but unfortunately, challenges in the local business environment have made our current distribution model in the country unsustainable," the company said. "These challenges include high import duties that apply to our sector and our decision not to have a local manufacturing operation. We will continue to monitor the evolution of the business environment and evaluate how best to serve our Brazilian fans in the future."
Brazil’s high taxes on Nintendo’s video games have raised the price for the PlayStation 4 to $3,999 reals, which is almost $1,500 as of today in the United States.
