It's happened. We've finally achieved some new level of Pokemon singularity. Pokken Tournament, the new Pokemon fighting game, was announced via livestream early Tuesday.
The game was first teased in August 2013, alongside new trademark registrations by the Pokemon Company for terms such as "Pokken Tournament" and "Pokken Fighters."
The game will be available in Japanese arcades next year, with no word on a potential Western release as of yet.
Namco Bandai, the team behind the popular Tekken fighting games, is developing the title.
"If you like Pokemon, anyone can enjoy this game," said Namco's Katsuhiro Harada.
The Soul Caliber team will also be involved in an unknown capacity, due to producer Masaaki Hoshino making an appearance during the stream as well.
Harada also alluded that the game was closer "to an action game." That may indicate a more Super Smash Bros. level of friendly competitive play, but Namco certainly knows its way around an intricate fighting system with Tekken.
