Minecraft Convention "Minecon" Not Happening This Year

by Joseph Knoop

Fans of the wildly popular sandbox mining, building, and a little-bit-of-everything-else game will have to look elsewhere to celebrate their love this year.

According to a statement by Mojang's COO Vu Bul, the annual convention, which began in 2010 as "MinecraftCon" will not take place this year, opting for a 2015 event in its stead.

"While we don't have a set date for the next MINECON just yet, I wanted to let everyone know that it won't be until sometime in 2015," Bul posted on the official Minecon announcements page. "I'm shooting to have it in the spring in London! While we'd love to do MINECON every year and it's the only event we do as a company, we want to make sure we can give it the attention it needs, and that means that springtime next year will work best!"

Bul also stated that the company tries to announce the event date only after securing a contract, which they evidently declined to do this year.

Minecraft version 1.8, which largely improves technical aspects of the game, will hit PCs September 2, so there's always that to look forward to.
