Sony Announces Virtual Reality Headset "Project Morpheus"

At tonights Driving the Future of Innovation at Sony Computer Entertainment panel at GDC, Sony president Shuhei Yoshida unveiled Project Morpheus, a PS4 Vitural Reality headset.

Yoshida stated that this new VR technology will allow Sony, "to push the boundaries of play…" Sony chose to unveil Morpheus at GDC since it is a developer-driven show, hoping developers chose to make games with it as Yoshida was quoted as saying, ""We believe Morpheus will further enhance the world of PlayStation 4 with seamless integration with PlayStation Camera, DualShock 4, and PS Move." 


Several studios have already signed onto working with the hardware,Unity, Havok, Wise, Gigantic, Autodesk Gameware, Criware, DDD, Silicon Studio, Epic Games, Bitsquid, and Crytek have all been confirmed to be working on the new technology. The current development kit has a 1080p display with a 90+ degree field of view. Other technical specs include*;

  • - Supports forward predictio

Game that have been announced for "Project Morpheus" include; Castle, EVE Valkyrie, The Deep and select portions of the new Thief.The hardware will be available to play on the convention floor tomorrow. More news sure to come in the following days.
