Co-Creator of South Park Talks Possible Sequel to Stick of Truth
by Nick Dowell
According to IGN, South Park Co-Creator Matt Stone isn't against making a sequel to South Park: The Stick of Truth.
"We'll see how it's received," he told IGN. "This was a hellacious undertaking -- much more than we signed up for...I would do it again, in some fashion."
He went on to discuss the adjustment it was to make a game rather than a TV show, which he is most used to.
"You sit and watch South Park a certain way...[and] a game is consumed a certain way. It engages different parts of your brain. The natural rhythms of comedy that we know pretty well from the TV comedy universe, they're different from a game. And they have to be different and you can't resist it."
Stone also mentioned that the extra year in development was a time of learning, mistakes, and assumptions that taught them a lot.
"I'll cop to the fact that we retooled stuff that we didn't like and we worked on the game longer than other people would've liked us to," he said.
When asked if anything had to be cut to get an 'M' rating from the ESRB, Stone said: "We didn't have to cut anything for the M rating. The stuff that was cut was cut for story and cut for production schedule."
Considering the popularity and success of Stick of Truth, perhaps another South Park game with Matt and Trey behind the wheel isn't too far-fetched of an idea. There are still a few jokes from the series that could be hilarious in gameplay, like a boss fight against Mecha-Streisand or a chili cookoff against Scott Tenorman.
