The end of days is here for the Marvel Universe as Marvel announced that they would be blending Marvel Universe with the Ultimate Universe, which will then be replaced with Battleworld.
The development has been in the works for all of Jonathan Hickman’s years-long Avengers saga. The heroes have spent the past year trying to stop the their universe from colliding with other universes, which would lead to the end of both.
During May’s eight-part Secret Wars, this will be the final event where the heroes fail to stop the universes from clashing with each other. Battleworld will be the result of the two universes colliding and the Marvel Universe’s way of going forward.
Marvel's Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso stated that this is a way to start a new era.
“This is putting an endcap to decades of stories and starting a new era. When you see the scope of the event, [you will] see what we’re willing to do. This is a place where we’re going to be bringing new pieces onto the board and taking old pieces off. You guys will be yelling and screaming, loving and hating in equal measure,”The trailer below shows off the scope of their plans with a map that gives a location of basically every teaser Marvel has given over the past year.
Battleworld begins with Secret Wars, which releases its first issue sometime in May.
