Nintendo is Planning Next Console

Shigeru Miyamoto Portrait Session

by Courtney Tuchman

Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of the Super Mario Bros. series and leader at Nintendo, has confirmed that the company is currently working on its next console. Miyamoto confirmed the information in an interview with the Associated Press.

Even though the Wii-U is only two years old, Miyamoto claims that Nintendo still looks to the future. “We're focused on providing a robust line-up of Wii U software for next year. It seems like we've managed to do that this year and people are very happy with what we've done on Wii U. For the time being, our focus is on the Wii U hardware, but Nintendo as a whole has groups working on ideas for new hardware systems. While we're busy working on software for the Wii U, we have production lines that are working on ideas for what the next system might be.” Miyamoto said.

Also in the interview, Miyamoto states that Nintendo’s financial slump from the last three years is beginning to come to an end. High sales of Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros., and amiibos have helped the company greatly.
