The general manager of Xbox in Japan, Takashi Sensui, resigned from his job. Coincidentally, Xbox One’s retail sales in Japan have been grim.
Rather than completely abandon the company, Sensui will move to Microsoft’s Redmond headquarters and become the General Manager of the Interactive Entertainment Business under Xbox Vice President Mike Nichols. Sensui will also act as a link between the Xbox teams in Japan and the United States.
According to Kotaku’s translastion of the Japanese games publication Famitsu, Sensui claimed that he is only “stepping down.” It is uncertain whether he is actually resigning or being promoted.
The management team in Xbox Japan has undergone much change lately; executives Yoshinami Takahashi and Nobuyoshi Yokoi are currently at the company’s head.
Xbox One’s sales have been rather poor in Japan. Approximately 1,000 units are sold weekly, making it a total of 40,000 sold since its release in Japan. Conversely, the Xbox 360 in Japan sold 62,000 units within its first two days on the market in 2005. 159,000 had been sold in the country total.
