The sequel to the 1996 hit Independence Day was confirmed. The sequel to this alien-invasion
disaster film has been rumored for a long time, but Twentieth Century Fox announced it this week.
Roland Emmerich, the director for the first film, will also be directing the sequel. Producer Dean Devlin will also be returning to this product.
Will Smith, who starred as the earth defending hero in Independence Day will not be returning. Other casting has not begun yet, but is slated to start early next year after producing is underway.
Independence Day 2 will begin production of May 2015, and is aiming for a summer release in 2016.
