Halo Composer Files Lawsuit Against Bungie
by Joseph Knoop
It's the opinion of many gamers, myself included, that one of the best parts of the entire Halo series was its score, making monk choirs synonymous with the first-person heroics of Master Chief.
Now, Halo and Destiny composer Marty O'Donnell has filed a lawsuit against developer Bungie and its chief executive Harold Ryan after his firing in April.
O'Donnell worked with the studio as audio director at the developers Washington studio last April, ending a 14-year career "without cause" according to the lawsuit.
O'Donnell also says he had accrued unpaid vacation time, paid time off, and other benefits, which the firing presumably nullified.
Bungie's policy demands that the studio pay employees accrued but unused vacation time, paid time off, and sabbatical time among other benefits.
O'Donnell reportedly has "other grievances" with the studio, but neither his lawsuit nor Bungie's reply statement clarified what those may be.
Bungie's official reply asked that the lawsuit be dismissed with prejudice.
Check back with Byte as the story develops. The world of law and justice is a messy one, but the implications could reach further than most gamers would like. Bungie will certainly have a tough time replacing the talent of O'Donnell for any future projects, that's for sure.
