Nintendo Newest Patent Points to New Handheld

By Jake Doolin

In a unique bit of news, Nintendo's latest patents point to a new handheld that has some interesting properties. The patent, which was filed in October, describes a system very similar to the 3DS although it lacks that handhelds clamshell design. The innovative idea behind this patent though is that his handheld would have interchangeable buttons.

The handheld would come with four slots for the buttons, and each could be removed and swapped to a different place on the hardware. The image below is an example of the slots.

While it is common for companies to patent many ideas for prototyping and not bring them to market, this latest one shows that Nintendo is still working on new ways for us to play games.
