Sony compensating PSN members affected by 2011 security breach

by Nick Dowell

Sony is still dealing with the repurcussions of their 2011 PlayStation Network attack, which resulted in compromised personal data of 70 million accounts and the network to be down for almost a month. After a class action lawsuit, Sony reached a compensation settlement.

Any user who had a PlayStation Network, Qriocity, or Sony Online Entertainment account before May 15, 2011 is eligible for different compensations based on the service(s) they were subscribed to. As far as PlayStation Network goes, the compensation includes some free games, some free dynamic themes, or three months of PlayStation Plus if you aren't already a member.

If users decide to go for the games, they may pick two from the following list, which is comprised of PlayStation 3 and PSP titles:

PlayStation 3:
- Dead Nation
- inFamous
- LittleBigPlanet
- Super Stardust HD
- Rain
- Puppeter
- Invizimals: Lost Kingdom
- God of War HD

PSP:
- LittleBigPlanet
- ModNation Racers
- Patapon 3
- Killzone Liberation
- Wipeout Pure
- Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror

Users can also choose to redeem dynamic themes based on games like Wipeout HD, Uncharted 2 and 3, The Last of Us, and Ratchet & Clank.

Those interested in redeeming these options can do so here, fill out the necessary forms, and mail them to Sony before August 31, 2015.
