Series of glitches in Super Mario World leads to world record

by Andrew Hughes

A Super Mario World speedrunner had the idea of researching a new way of finishing the game as fast as possible. SethBling, popular YouTuber and speedrunner, developed a method of an unintended ‘warp’ to the credits.

He explains the technicality of the movements he makes in this commentary, relying on skill as well as luck; the chance of him reaching the credits with perfect luck execution is less than 10 percent.

Despite his successful records, this was not a solo effort. The trick was first performed on emulator last summer by a different streamer, Jeffw356; in fact, it was previously thought impossible on a Super Nintendo console. This is where SethBling came in, developing his route with the help of viewers and friends.

Soon after he uploaded this video, SethBling achieved his newest record of 4:49.8, beating his old record by a minute and ten seconds. He claims he could improve it by around 30 seconds by improving on mistakes in his current record.
