Texas City Approves Creation of National Videogame Museum
by Andrew Hughes
The National Videogame Museum was recently approved to occupy a 10,400 square-foot space in the Texas Discovery Center in Frisco. It will stay there during the construction of a much larger facility, expected to cost almost $1 million. The Frisco Community Development Corporation board approved its terms and assisted in donating $100,000 to the nonprofit museum.
The museum hasn’t had a permanent location since it was founded by Joe Santulli, John Hardie and Sean Kelly, who have plans to install retro arcades with a variety of games. They have to fit as much of their collection in the space as they can. Much of it is in storage across the country, waiting for a facility that can hold it all permanently.
The founders have intentions to develop the Videogame History Museum by educating visitors with all the aspects of their creation, from the science and code to the art and animation.
