New Nintendo 3DS Launches in Australia before America and Europe

By Courtney Tuchman

The New Nintendo 3DS and the New Nintendo 3DS XL are confirmed to be receiving a November 21, 2014 launch in Australia. The release date was announced by Nintendo Australia today through the first Nintendo Direct Australia.

Tom Enoki, Nintendo Australia’s managing director, made the announcement of the release date, which is just over a month later than the Japanese release on October 11.

Nintendo also revealed that it does not plan to release the handhelds this year in Europe and America.

At launch, the New Nintendo 3DS will be available in white while the New Nintendo 3DS XL will be available in metallic black or blue. Various faceplates for the consoles may also be purchased to add a more customizable gaming experience.

The New Nintendo 3DS will be $219.95 and the New Nintendo 3DS XL will be $249.95. Although the consoles will not come with an AC adapter, they will still be compatible with the older DS and 3DS adapters. Amiibo figures will also be incorporated with the handhelds.

First announced at a Nintendo Direct in August, the new consoles have stronger CPU than in the past, which will cause faster downloads and speedier browsing in the eShop. An analog “nub” is placed above the A,B, X, and Y buttons. Additionally, ZR and ZL are new shoulder buttons next to the already existing R and L buttons.

The new consoles are expected to be showcased by Nintendo at EB Expo and will also be playable at Australia’s PAX event.
