Sony confirmed today that Infamous and Sly Cooper developer Sucker Punch has experienced layoffs, potentially hitting as far back as members originally involved in the Sly Cooper franchise.
Sony confirmed the information in a statement released to IGN:
"SCEA can confirm a reduction in workforce has taken place at Sucker Punch Productions. Sucker Punch is appreciative of the tremendous work team members contributed to the inFAMOUS and Sly Cooper series, and wishes them the best in their next endeavors."Layoffs, even large-scale ones, aren't anything new to the industry, but the mention of the Sly Cooper franchise in the statement may bode ill for senior staff members. The last Sly Cooper game the developer produced was Sly Cooper 3 on the Playstation 2 in 2005, before transitioning to the inFamous franchise for the Playstation 3.
Sony acquired Sucker Punch as a first-party developer after the success of the first inFamous game. Their latest title, inFamous: Second Son released to mostly positive reaction in March 2014. The game's first DLC installment "First Light" will release on August 26.
