"Video Game Addiction" to be Topic at Sandy Hook Forum

by Joseph Knoop

It's been well over a year since the tragic Sandy Hook shooting, but that hasn't stopped the public conversations swirling around gun violence, mental health, and political discourse.

The Newtown Public Schools Recovery Project recently finalized the agenda for its meeting on April 24, featuring a forum on "Video Game Addiction."

"The forum will provide information on the definition and criteria for video game addiction, the psychology of video game addiction, signs a child may need help, what makes them so addicting, negative consequences of gaming addiction (physical, social, etc.) and treatment," the Newtown Bee reported.

The forum will be facilitated by Mark Augustine, a licensed marriage and family therapist of Wellmore Behavioral Health, Master of Social Work Rosa Baldino, and school counselor Leanne Fuccillo.

The Newtown Public Schools Recovery Project, formed in the wake of the Sandy Hook school shooting that ended the lives of 20 children and six adults, holds forums centered around discussions on "challenging topics" and "effective problem-solving skills."

It's worth noting that a report made in November 2013 found no link between video games and the gunman, 20-year-old Adam Lanza.
