F.E.A.R developer Monolith has announced Middle-Earth: The Shadow of Mordor, a role-playing game set in the Lord of the Rings universe, is to be released on October 7. The game will be set between The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, and will be on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3, and PC. No Wii U release is planned.

Along with a release date, Monolith has given us a new story trailer which reveals that a “Dark Ranger” DLC pack will be available if you pre order the game. The DLC includes a new character skin, challenge mode, and access to online leaderboards.

Shadow of Mordor follows a ranger named Talion, as he traverses the world of Mordor looking for his family’s murder.

The game has been surrounded by controversy as of late. After the release of a gameplay trailer in January a former Ubisoft developer accused Monolith of taking Assassin Creed II code. Along with that the games Nemesis system has also been scaled back for the PS3 and Xbox 360, and the game will have no multiplayer.
