Sony Computer Entertainment America has announced that sales of the Playstation 4 have surpassed 7 million units as of April 6, 2014 in a PRNewswire post.

"The response from the global gaming community for PS4 has been overwhelming and we are truly humbled that gamers are selecting PS4 as their next generation console of choice," said Andrew House, President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.

Software sales have also remained strong for Sony, with 20.5 million individual sales, including digital downloads through the Playstation Network.

The company also announced that 135 million have been captured using the system's integrated TwitchTV and photo capability.

Microsoft reportedly sold 3 million units of the Xbox One console by April 1, according to Xbox Wire. The competing consoles have been hot on each other's heels for some time now, but the gap seems to be halting at its current pace.
