Crytek to Offer CryEngine for Indie Devs for under $10 a Month
by Joseph Knoop
Hot on the heels of Epic Games announcement to release the Unreal Engine for a monthly fee, Crytek, the developer behind the graphic powerhouse Crysis, has announced their plan to release the CryEngine with a similar model.
The engine will be available for $9.90. Unlike Epic Games, Crytek will not be demanding a percentage of gross profit made off the games produced using the engine.
The service, named "CryEngine", debuts in May.
It's not clear how Crytek will determine what studios are "indie" enough to qualify, but traditional studios will be forced to follow a more stringent agreement.
"When we announced the new CryEngine this was our first step towards creating an engine as a service," said Crytek director of business development Carl Jones.
