A team of developers from Call of Duty and God of War fame have launched a kickstarter to fund their new project To The Death.
The title, currently in prototype stage, is being developed by
game designer Todd Aiderman and engineering developer Francesco Gigliotti. Both
spent a number of years working with Infinity Ward in launching the Modern Warfare franchise, eventually working
on Respawn’s Titanfall.
Developer Teams Scary Mostro and Section Studios plan to
combine a number of gameplay styles, including sidescrolling action combat and
exploration.
To The Death
features two warriors of immense power, each holding a deadly grudge against
the other. So deadly, in fact, that they’ve already killed each other. Now
stuck in The Crawl, a purgatory-like plane of existence for warriors and foul
creatures, players race towards each other on separate screens, building up
energy in order to defeat your opponent. Forces present on The Crawl will rush
to destroy the two warriors, as their grudge match threatens to destroy the
entire plane. The developers stress, however, that players will have to
cooperate with each other to defeat the final boss.
To The Death is
being developed in conjuction with God of War 3’s Visual Development Lead Cecil
Kim. The full length soundtrack features the work of Logan Made, known for his
work in Machine Head and production for artists like Periphery, Bullet for My
Valentine, and the Metal Gear Rising soundtrack.
The game runs at 60fps, and seems to
be in pretty good shape. If the lore of The Crawl and the two warriors is
interesting enough, Scary Mostro and Section Studios may have a lightweight hit
on their hands.
