Redbox to Raise Prices Next Year

by Scott Minor

Redbox is raising the prices for all its titles starting on January 6.

The biggest price jump is with Redbox’s video game rentals. The price is moving up from $2 to $3.

Redbox says the reason for the video game rental price increase is, “so we can stock more top titles and roll out games for new consoles to more cities next year.”

DVD and Blu-ray rentals will also face a price increase. DVD rentals will now cost $1.50 while Blu-ray rentals will be $2.

"The pricing adjustments announced today will allow Redbox to continue to offer consumers high quality movies and games while making investments to enhance the customer experience,” said  Outerwall's Chief Executive Officer J. Scott Di Valerio.

This is the first time Redbox has raised its prices on video games and Blu-rays and only the second time they have raised prices on DVDs in over 12 years.
