The America Federation of Music announced today a new game agreement with Microsoft. AFM president Ray Hair said to Variety that he hopes the new deal will serve as a standard for future deals with other publishers.
This new deal will replace a contract from October 2012 that was rejected because it was deemed too restrictive by every game publisher. The new one will begin immediately and go through December 2016.
Some of the details of the contract include basic scale wages for a three-hour session and use of music outside of the original game's context.
According to an unnamed game composer, this deal is "a really good first step." He also said he felt that other publishers would sign similar deals. However, he said "not all of them will" because some publishers might want free use of the music for all future purposes.
Hopefully this collaboration means some stellar soundtracks for future Microsoft games.
