Nintendo to Introduce a Console for Emerging Markets

by Nick Dowell

Nintendo is working on a new console! But it doesn't look like a followup to the Wii U or 3DS.

According to an interview with Reuters, Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata has said that Nintendo is planning on introducing a new console and software for emerging markets. This technology would be geared toward consumers with less income and gaming experience.

Simultaneously, there are no plans to launch existing consoles like the Wii U or 3DS in these markets.

"It would be difficult to enter those markets if we didn't create something new..." Iwata said. "For the mass market, you need to provide something that most of the middle class can afford."

No details have been given on what to expect of this new device, including where it will be sold.
