Evolve Won't Have Mod Support At Launch

by Joseph Knoop

For a developer famous for one of the most modded games of all time, developer Turtle Rock sure is making it hard for a core segment of their audience to get engaged in the game.

Evolve, the hotly anticipated four-versus-one first-person shooter that pits human 'hunters' against one formidable beast will not support mods at launch, according to an interview with Turtle Rock co-founder Phill Robb by Rock, Paper, Shotgun.

“We’re not against it,” he told RPS. “I’m a big fan of that kind of stuff. I mean, if it ends up coming to be, then that’s awesome. But we’re still very much in development. I don’t think we have anything concrete yet.”

Turtle Rock, the developers behind Left 4 Dead and its sequel, previously allowed for heavy modding by the fan community. Granted, that was under the help of Valve. The studio is now on its own and attempting to make its own name a recognized one. Despite the news that modding won't be supported, it's only a matter of time until the modding community can get its hands on the proper tools.

If anything, Robb seemed enthusiastic to the idea in his RPS interview.
