Activision Reportedly Investing $500 Million in Destiny

By Jake Doolin

Activision is betting that their new IP Destiny will be the next big thing, so much so that the company has already invested $500 million into the game. CEO Bobby Kotick stated that this investment would cover the development, packaging, royalties, marketing, and infrastructure support.

A spokesperson for Activision was also quoted, saying that, "Bungie's very ambitious plan is designed to unfold over a 10-year period. The depth of creative content, scope and scale is unprecedented and is required to bring Bungie's vision to life. Over the long term, we expect the ultimate product costs to be roughly in line with other Triple-A titles."

This is a mighty big gamble for Activision, and with early reactions to the game being somewhat mixed, it might be an early sign that it won't pay off.
