The Last of Us Lead Character Artist Leaves Naughty Dog

by Joseph Knoop

Another day, another departure from Naughty Dog, it seems. The Last of Us lead character artist Michael Knowland has left the studio, according to Knowland's LinkedIn profile via Twitter user Superannuation.

Knowland had been with the studio for three years, at least two of which was spent working on The Last of Us. He had previously worked at Elite: Dangerous studio Frontier Developments.

News of his leaving comes after a long string of high-profile departures from the studio, including creative director Amy Hennig, Uncharted 4 game director Justin Richmond, and art director Nate Wells.

Again, it's not uncommon for studios to lose higher level staff members, especially after huge projects and between console generations. However, the rate of departures and high profile of each former member begs a very important question: Is there trouble brewing at Naughty Dog? Or is it business as usual? With Uncharted 4, presumably slated as a PS4 exclusive, in the balance, it's looking less and less bright for the studio.
