Today's Nintendo Direct focused on Mario Kart 8 and it came out with some exciting news.
When the game releases next month, a special Wii U bundle with Mario Kart 8 will be released as well for $330 USD. It will include a black Wii U with a red steering wheel and bonus Mario Wii Remote Plus.
If those who purchase Mario Kart 8 register it on Club Nintendo before July 31, they will be given a free download of one of four games: The Windwaker HD, New Super Mario Bros U, Pikmin 3, or Wii Party U. For the European players, choices also include Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Nintendo Land, The Wonderful 101, Sonic Lost World, Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympics, and Game and Wario.
The Direct also gave some information on the gameplay itself. On the multiplayer front, 12-player races have been confirmed. There will also be voice chat capabilities as well as four race modes: Worldwide, Regional, Friends, and Tournament.
New items revealed include the Super Horn, which attacks enemies with a massive shockwave, and the Crazy Eight, which flings eight different items at opponents.
Two new characters were also revealed: Baby Rosalina and a metallic Pink-Gold Peach. These new characters bring the game's roster up to 30.
