GLAAD Awards give Special Recognition to Dragon Age: Inquisition

by Carmen Schwierking
Dragon Age: Inquisition received GLAAD’s Special Recognition Award at the 2015 GLAAD Awards.
GLAAD is a media monitoring and advocacy group for the LGBT community. They work to bring more awareness and positive representation to all forms of media. Their annual awards ceremony recognizes the media doing that. GLAAD President and CEO, Sarah Kate Ellis said “the GLAAD Media Awards have raised the bar for inclusion in news and entertainment.”
Video games do not currently have a category in the awards. “Outstanding media projects for which there is not a competitive category” are contenders for the Special Recognition Award.
Dragon Age: Inquisition, according to GLAAD, received the award for “many complex and unique LGBT characters prominently integrated throughout the game.” Many gaming websites included the game’s attitudes toward gender and sexuality as reasons why the game scored so highly in reviews and in some cases was awarded Game of the Year.
GLAAD Award Nominees were announced on January 21, 2015.
