Best Buy Oversells Majora’s Mask 3DS Pre-Orders

Best Buy Mistake Screws Some People Out Of Majora's Mask 3DSes

by Courtney Tuchman

Best Buy oversold pre-orders for the Majora’s Mask 3DS. Customers were sent e-mails informing them of their pre-orders cancellations, stating that the amount of orders had “exceeded the quantities made available.”

The limited edition 3DS has been extremely popular since Nintendo revealed it last week. It sold out in less than an hour when the item was placed for sale on Best Buy’s website last Wednesday. In order to cut down on the sheer number of system requests, Best Buy cancelled orders of customers who had purchased more than one 3DS each. However, the measures were not enough, prompting further cancellations.

Best Buy is compensating customers who were not able to receive their 3DS with $50 discounts.

The following text is the e-mail Best Buy issued:

Hello [NAME]

We're sorry but there is an issue with your pre-order. The popularity of
Nintendo 3DS XL Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask Limited Edition
Gold/Black exceeded the quantities made available to Best Buy. As a
result, we are unable to fulfill all of the pre-orders received. We regret that
your particular order has been canceled and we know that this is
disappointing. We want to make it up to you by offering a $50 discount that
may be used towards the purchase of one of these alternate options, or
other products on BestBuy.com:1

- Nintendo - 3DS XL - Black SKU: 2306021

- Nintendo - 3DS XL - Red SKU: 2307075

Fortunately, Best Buy is not the only location selling the Majora’s Mask 3DS consoles. Places like GameStop are reported to still have some in stock. Purchases should be made as soon as possible, for it is likely the system will be completely sold out shortly.
