AOL To Close Joystiq

by Jake Doolin

Sources located within AOL have stated that a upcoming restructuring of the company will lead to the closing of several sites including Joystiq. The gaming site was acquired by AOL in 2005, along with it's sister sites Engadget and Autoblog and has been a staple of gaming journalism since.

The site has seen troubles in the past year though, with TechCrunch reporting a 18% decrease in traffic to the site since the last year. Joystiq has responded to the rumors of its closing with a statement that read,

"Sources tell Joystiq that the staff is aware of the closure, but corporate hasn't officially told them, so they are unable to acknowledge anything out of concern that it will cause immediate shutdown. We've reached out for more information. We will update, as we always have, when we know more."

No word on when the closing may occur.
