If you missed playing the classic arcade games from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s then you are in luck. The Internet Archive has brought back 900 classic arcade games straight to your Internet browser.
The games have been available since November 1. Some of the classics available are Paperboy, Street Fighter II and even Galaga.
The games are easy to boot up but not all are guaranteed to work. But they also don’t require third-party software and the games currently run the best when using Firefox.
Jason Scott, one of the creators behind the archive, shared his reasoning for creating the arcade on his blog.
“Obviously, a lot of people are going to migrate to games they recognize and ones that they may not have played in years,” Scott shared. “They’ll do a few rounds, probably get their a**es kicked, smile, and go back to their news sites.”
Scott encourages people playing to go for the games they have never played before and give them a shot.
“A few more, I hope, will go towards games they’ve never heard of, with rules they have to suss out, and maybe more people will play some of these arcades in the coming months than the games ever saw in their ‘real’ lifetimes.”
Scott hopes that with the new launch of the archive that it will help make an impact in future video game research and writings.
