Spider-Gwen and Silk Get Their Own Ongoing Series

by Nick Dowell

Spider-Gwen #1 by Robbi Rodriguez
The wildly popular Spider-Gwen is getting her own series. This news comes from Marvel's Spider-Verse panel at this year's New York Comic Con. The series will follow Gwen after the events of the Spider-Verse, as she decides to be a superhero.

The creation of this series comes from the massive fan response to Edge of Spider-Verse #2.

"You asked for it! The response to Edge of Spider-Verse #2 was so huge," said Nick Lowe, one of the editors for the Spider-Verse event.

The series is set to be written by Jason Latour, with Robbi Rodriguez and Rico Renzi working on the art.

Silk #1 by Dave Johnson
If you haven't read Edge of Spider-Verse #2 (which you should), it ends in a pretty heavy cliffhanger. Gwen is seen as a criminal. Her father discovers that the menace he's been hunting is his own daughter, and he's caught in the middle of the law and his duty as a father.

Also announced to be getting an ongoing series will be Cindy Moon, aka Silk. Silk was recently revealed to have been bitten by the same spider that bit Peter, which gave her powers similar to his. On this series, Supernatural writer Robbie Thompason will be writing, with Stacey Lee drawing and Dave Johnson creating covers.

Both series will begin in February 2015, after Marvel's massive Spider-Verse event.
