Samsung Develops WiFi Five Times Faster than Current Systems

By Nick Dowell

South Korean technology juggernaut Samsung has created a 60 GHz technology that they claim can send data five times faster than other electronic devices.

This new technology will allow data transmission speeds of up to 575 megabytes per second, which is fast enough to transfer a one gigabyte movie in less than three seconds and to stream HD videos from mobile devices to TV in real-tinme.

Samsung said in an announcement: "Unlike the existing 2.4 GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi technologies, Samsung's 802.11ad standard 60 GHz Wi-Fi technology maintains maximum speed by eliminating co-channel interference, regardless of the number of devices using the same network."

The company hopes to commercialize this new technology as early as next year in audio-visual technology, medical devices, and mobile phones.
