Former MLG player shot and killed in Craigslist sale

by Lucas Schmidt

Former MLG Gears of War player, Daniel Zeitz, was shot and killed Friday night according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Daniel was meeting two potential buyers of his PS4 system that he had advertised on Craigslist.

Around 9:30 p.m. he met a 20-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl in an apartment parking lot. While still in his car, the man tried to rob Daniel of his system. As they struggled, the 16-year-old fired a handgun. The bullet passed through her partner's hand and then struck Daniel in the chest, killing him.

The couple’s 16 month old child was in the back seat of the car during the shooting. They were taken into custody after seeking medical treatment at a hospital for the man’s hand.

A page to raise money for Daniel’s funeral costs has far exceeded it’s original goal of $10,000. As of Thursday evening, the page has already raised more than $21,000.

Daniel, who was known as Phobos in gaming communities, was playing online with friends that night. K.L. Smith, who was one of those friends, told the Huffington Post,
"Shortly before the shooting he was playing with his other teammates and said, 'Hey guys, I'll be right back.' I guess that's when he went outside to do this Craigslist deal and got shot."
The 16-year-old girl will now be charged as an adult, although her name has not been released yet.
