Blizzard Cancels Next-Gen MMO

By Nick Dowell

Blizzard announced that their secret project Titan has been canceled.

The project, which was never actually confirmed, had supposedly been in development for seven years before it was shut down.

Polygon spoke with Blizzard co-founder and CEO Mike Morhaime, who said that with the success of World of Warcraft, the developer felt confident in their skills in MMO creation.

"So we set out to make the most ambitious thing that you could possibly imagine. And it didn't come together," he said.

He continued the conversation by saying that they "didn't find the fun" in the game and after much deliberation, decided Titan wasn't the game they wanted to be making.

"It's always really, really hard to make those kind of discisions," Morhaime said. "It's always really, really hard to make those kind of decisions. It was hard when we canceled Warcraft Adventures. It was hard when we canceled StarCraft Ghost. But it has always resulted in better-quality work."

Morhaime also said that future MMOs aren't out of the question, but that Blizzard doesn't want to put their time into right now.

While their plans for Titan fell through, Blizzard's senior vice president of story and development Chris Metzen assured Polygon they will continue supporting World of Warcraft.
