Nintendo Declines Petition to Honor Robin Williams in Upcoming Zelda Game

by Nick Dowell

In the wake of Robin Williams' death, a petition on Change.org was created to ask Nintendo to name an NPC in the upcoming Zelda after the actor, who was a well-known fan of the series to the point he named his daughter after the titular character.

"Please consider naming an NPC in the new Legend of Zelda game after Robin Williams. It was a series he loved, and it's a small tribute to a great man," the petition says.

Tonight, Nintendo responded by declining any commitment to the petition.

"Robin Williams was loved at Nintendo," said a Nintendo spokesperson. "Out hearts go out to his entire family, and especially Zelda Williams who we've worked with multiple times."

"We appreciate the outpouring of support from the gaming community, and hear the request of our fans to honor him in a future game.We will not be discussing what might be possible for future games during this difficult time, but we will hold our memories of Robin close."

Blizzard received a similar request earlier this week and responded by saying they had seen the petition and they are "taking care of it."
