After a number of teasers, Warner Bros. Television has revealed the costume for the upcoming The Flash CW television show.
The costume was designed by Academy Award-winning Colleen Atwood, known for her work designing CW's Arrow costume, as well as Memoirs of a Geisha, Alice in Wonderland and Chicago. Atwood also worked on Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and Sleepy Hollow.
"I hope the fans who treasure the character are as excited as we are by what costume designer Colleen Atwood has achieved with this latest version of The Flash's iconic suit," said pilot director/executive producer David Nutter.
Only the pilot for The Flash has been greenlit so far, meaning CW will most likely wait until after May, when the CW makes its network lineup announcement. In other news, DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns on as executive producer, meaning the comic arm of DC will have a substantial say in the direction the show takes.
I haven't seen much of the CW's efforts in regards to Arrow, but The Flash has made quite the comeback in comic form over the past couple years. Between Flashpoint and the beautiful art in the most current comic issues, I don't see much to worry over. The costume doesn't really wow me, but half the fun will remain in seeing Barry Allen's powers realized in the visual medium.
Do you readers think The Flash will be able to make a dent in Marvel's throne? Quicksilver, Marvel's answer to The Flash, will be appearing in 2015's The Avengers: Age of Ultron, so hopefully DC and CW can get their own property up to speed before then.
