Warner Brothers is Making a Minecraft Movie

by Nick Dowell

It looks like Minecraft will is going the way of Ratchet and Clank/Sly Cooper and making its way onto the big screen. According to Deadline, Warner Brothers acquired the rights to the game from Mojang in order to make it a movie.

Even more interesting is that Roy Lee (producer for The Lego Movie) and Jill Messick (producer for Mean Girls) are on board the project.

Even more interesting is the route being taken for the production of this movie. As of right now, it isn't going to be animated or created with CGI. Nope, it's going to be a live-action movie.

GameInformer reached out to Markus "Notch" Persson, creator of the game, who said: "I've personally mostly stayed out of it, but I do know we've been talking to WB about making a movie. Negotiations have been going on for a while, but I have no idea what the status of those negotiations are, or how likely the movie is to happen."

Unlike other movies based on games, Minecraft has the benefit of being basically anything a player wants it to, meaning we might see some really interesting developments as the film progresses through production.
